Why do Politicians lie

Why do politicians lie? Because they can! That is the best reason that I can come up with. I can't blame the politicians for lying. Politicians are doing what we allow them to do. After all, no one is going to reach the pinnacle of American political power without pushing the limits of success. These men are not playing it safe by pursuing the office of the President of the United States. They are pulling out every dirty trick imaginable in order to claw their way to the top. That includes lying, cheating, and stealing. These guys are not good people, they are dirty lying rats in pursuit of their political cheese.

This doesn't mean that we should allow politicians to lie, or even worse, excuse their lies when it is our political candidate of choice. I wrote a whole article about morality in politics, and I've come to the conclusion that politicians lie because we do not have the morals in this country to demand that politicians tell us the truth.

Yes it is a sad state of affairs in America. We have fallen to a level where listening to our political leaders tell us lies has become acceptable behavior. Some people allow the lies because they do not have the moral fortitude to demand more out of our political leaders. They say "I lie, so why can't politicians". While others allow it because -- let's face it--they do not have the proper discernment needed to differentiate truth from a lie. Whether you want to call those people brainwashed, gullible, stupid or uninformed, it is your call. I think that there is a good amount of all of the above in that portion of the population. The really sad part occurs when these people try to teach others about political affairs. It becomes comical at times, but usually it is more sad than comical. It doesn't matter how much good information some people are presented, they refuse to accept any information that does not mesh with their current political mindset.

There is no point in talking to some people

Some people are much more hopeful than I am about the condition of the country. They will tell you that we are at the peak of our steadily improving American history. They will say that we have overcome so many troubles in the past that it is inevitable that we will overcome all current and future crisis's. I am not as encouraged as the people that think this way. If we are going to improve upon our current condition we need to first identify our problems before we can correct our problems. Simply saying that America has overcome problems in the past, does not mean that we will continue to overcome anything.

The problems of our historic past were overcome by Americans that were morally superior to our current population. They were better equipped to deal with their problems than we are today. They understood sacrifice, family, and honor. Our current population tends toward entitlement and apathy. There is a difference between people that are individuals that want to stand on their own, and people that expect a safety net to hold them up. I don't recall seeing pictures of people camping out in parks demanding payment for their education during the great depression. I saw signs that read "painter hire me".

Our current population is a shell of our past. We are now a collection of people with different goals. Americans of old had a goal to succeed as a nation, take care of their families, and promote the American way of life. Now the goal of many people is to advance their personal group or political groups within our nation. We are currently divided to a point that I refuse to even discuss politics with some people.

After about two political sentences I can usually tell where someone stands. I wrote something about the Barbery Pirates and the first thought that came to one commenter's mind was slavery in America. I thought that my hub was a historical account, not a bash America piece, but not this guy. He put his hate America first mentality out there for all to see. He followed that up with an attack on Christianity of course. The two seem to go hand and hand. If that type of mentality is not division among the people, then I do not know what is. Am I supposed to call someone that thinks like this my fellow American just because we occupy the same piece of land? After all, that is about all that I have in common with someone like that.

That division is usually what allows the lies of politicians to survive. I can not and will not compromise with an immoral bunch of people that tolerate the lies of politicians in order to further their agenda. But I will continue to demand better from the people that I support. Since some people refuse to look to the Bible for its moral wisdom, I will share a Biblical fact that is found within the pages of the greatest book of all time. "...if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom can not stand". It is true that we have been divided before, but we were God fearing people during those times.

Now we are a divided people without a whole lot keeping us together. In fact, many of the people reading this hub already disagree with my viewpoints completely. That's fine, I know that you are out there, and I dismiss you and you can do the same to me. Just ask yourself how much longer will you tolerate the lies of politicians? We need to transform ourselves morally if we ever expect to transform our leaders to a level of moral excellence. Until we do that, just kick up your feet like President Obama, and wait for the lies to come out of the mouths of your leaders whenever they open their mouths.
